Con Dao is definitely a great place to go if you are in Vietnam.
White sandy beach, sun, snorkeling, and wonderful landscape! Con Dao also has a hard and difficult past considering that it was an ex-penal colony; so there are loads of old prisons on the island. Very interesting to visit but very down to earth…
I arrived on a Friday morning, we were sleeping at ConDao Camping, a chilled place to stay: bungalows on the beach!
When we arrived, we had lunch and we visited the city centre walking (quite small as there is only one town on the Island). We visited the prison museum and one of the prison, then we headed to the city market. Very small but very cute. A little woman was cooking some banana rolled with rice (very very good 🙂 ). Then we organized our next days trip in order to fill up our 2 days with visits and tours. We finally decided to book a boat tour including hiking, the visit of a lighthouse, snorkeling, and sightseeing of the turtles beach in another island. The weather on Saturday was SO HOT. We had to climb a forest in order to reach the lighthouse and it was really exhausting! Snorkeling was good fun 🙂 All these colors, fishes and corals were amazing. Unfortunately we didn’t see any turtles as it was not the season anymore… They usually come between June and September so we were just right at the end of the season #Toobad 😦 But we saw the beach where they used to come at night to lay their eggs. Our guide was amazing, really nice and friendly!! He took us for a Phô in the evening (really nice) and organised for us the next day (Sunday). Thanks to him we spent a wonderful weekend, visiting the Island for the North to the South and we will probably see him again if he comes to Saigon!!
So the next day, he took us to a beach in the West of the Island, nobody was there, only us! He even organized a fruits picnic and a little snorkeling session #cute ! In the afternoon, we visited 2 more prisons. The buildings are simply beautiful (if you don’t think of what happened inside)… The colors, the materials, the shapes are very well done. I was impressed by the structure and the style of all these old building!
I leave you having a look at the pictures I took during this trip 🙂
